Formed on December 24th, 2011 in Bandung, Indonesia, Ikkubaru was created by converting our front man name “Iqbal” into a Japanese katakana romanticization. Ikkubaru is influenced by the 80’s Japanese pop culture or so-called ‘City Pop’ genre; a culture very much influenced by Japanese musicians such as Tatsuro Yamashita, Toshiki Kadomatsu, Mariya Takeuchi, etc.
Teh band has collaborated with a handful of popular Japanese musicians like Tofubeats, Especia, Faint Star, TWEEDEES, Kenichiro Nishihara, etc.
Their first EP, ‘Heart House was released by Japanese netlabel, Maltine Records in 2012. And their debut album ‘Amusement Park’ was released in Japan by indie label, Hope You Smile Records in 2014 making, expanding the Ikkubaru brand across Japan.
Thier 2015 debut album, ‘Amusement Park’ has been released on 12” vinyl, with a cassette version to follow in 2016 by independent Indonesian label, Nanaba Records. By 2017, the record was released in Indonesia on CD in 2017 on CD through Monolite Records, in collaboration with Misashi Records.
Ikkubaru successfully set out their first tour in June of 2015 touching the cities of Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe and Fukuoka. That same year they returned to Japan to performed the Asian Music Found Festival by September in Fukuoka.The second tour took place in 2016 to perform at the 2016 Sound Cruising festival, while playing in Tokyo, Kyoto, Fukuoka and Ooita. The Skyline Tour in 2017 was the third Japanese tour to coincide with the release of the band’s double-single to be released in 2017.
While still signed to Hope You Smile Records for Japan, Ikkubaru signed with Circulate Music in the Summer of 2018 to handle the remaining world, while the band gears-up for the release of their second studio album, Cards & Melodies.
